New Energies, Innovation & Technology,

Maintenance & Offshore Services

Watchful to market needs and opportunities, we have the New Energies and Services Unit, which aims to reach and explore new frontiers through innovation, such as offshore wind energy, carbon capture, and digital products.

To achieve our goals, our team is divided into three thematic axes: New Energies, Innovation & Technology, and Maintenance & Offshore Services.

new energies

We have an ESG commitment to achieve 25% of our revenue from clean energies until 2040. Therefore, we are investing in the development of various possibilities related to new energies.

We look to leverage our offshore expertise to explore the significant potential of offshore wind energy in Brazil, contributing to the evolution of the energy sector and creating value for our stakeholders.

Our entry into this market will involve a detailed study of synergies between our existing offshore and subsea activities and the anticipated activities in the offshore wind market. This includes exploring business models such as EPCI for cable installation in offshore wind farms. Furthermore, we are actively seeking partnerships for pre-assembly, assembly, and maintenance of wind turbines to position ourselves alongside turbine manufacturers for future involvement in this market.
In just two years (2019 – 2021), the biogas market has doubled its national production capacity, according to Abiogás. This positions Brazil as a powerhouse in this segment, where energy is generated from the decomposition of organic matter in a biodigester. The fermentation and decomposition processes in the biodigester produce biogas, the raw material for biomethane. Biomethane is used in the production of advanced fuels such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), biodiesel, and synthetic petroleum. Similar to biogas, biomethane also generates electrical energy. Until 2032, it is projected that 19.2 billion normal cubic meters (Nm³) will be generated, achieving a potential of 2.1 GW average for electricity export. Interested in this market, we leverage synergies and knowledge gained in the oil and gas sector to collaborate with other companies with the goal of providing technology, nationalizing equipment, manufacturing and pre-assembling modules/skids, as well as engaging in installation/integration, operation, and maintenance of the unit. Our focus is on biogas production from agave, a plant genus typical of Mexico. We are developing a concept for the assessment and scaling of an integrated plant for defibration and biogas generation from sisal leaves and constructing and testing a pilot plant in the Brazilian hinterlands.
We are studying the green hydrogen value chain and seeking partnerships for future involvement in this market.
We are studying possibilities for improve our knowledge in the carbon capture market with the aim of developing partnerships for future involvement in this area.
We continually work to optimize our processes and offer digital solutions for the energy market. Based on our vision of the future and business priorities, the challenges and opportunities for Ocyan's sustainable growth are prioritized on the various fronts of the company's Innovation framework. The implementation of projects is coordinated and monitored by a portfolio management area and its enablers include adequate allocation of resources, engagement and acculturation of the internal public and systematic interaction with the innovation ecosystem.

To expand our value offer to the market, we are structuring a platform of digital and technology solutions, with the aim of creating an integrated solution for asset and operations management. This new portfolio of products and services reinforces Ocyan's positioning as one of the service providers in the sector that invests the most in innovation in the country.

We also aim to strengthen our relationships with startups, not only through hiring and partnerships, but also through investments.

Some of our initiatives

Ocyan Waves

This is Ocyan's open innovation platform, comprising two main programs: Ocyan Waves Challenge and Ocyan Waves Booster. With results achieved through Ocyan Waves, we were recognized among the top 100 companies with the best relationships with startups according to the 100Open Ranking. In 2023, we ranked as the second-best company in the Oil & Gas sector.

Challenge: It began in 2019 with the aim of solving internal challenges at Ocyan through connections with mature startups. With Ocyan Waves Challenge, we have mapped over 340 startups, progressed to a total of 23 implemented pilot projects, and formalized 15 contracts.

Booster: The first edition was launched in 2022 to boost startups focused on cleantech solutions. Another characteristic of the program is its focus on startups in the validation stage, meaning they have significant potential for mentoring and development.

Digital Transformation

Based on our digital maturity assessment, we’ve created a digital roadmap with projects supported by various technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, etc.

Our plan is to implement more than 60 opportunities identified over the next few years, and at the end of this cycle, reassess the company's digital maturity. To ensure the training of our team members and enable them to handle the technologies outlined in our digital roadmap, we have initiated the Digital Training Journey.

The program provides courses and theoretical and practical training in advanced technologies, as well as customized informative content with applied technology case studies.

Innovation Ecosystem

We believe that innovation is essential for the sustainable future of our industry, and, for this purpose, we have established strategic partnerships with various entities within this ecosystem.

Our collaboration with academic institutions, startups, government agencies, and other companies has driven research, development, and implementation of cutting-edge technologies in our operations. These partnerships allow us to explore new opportunities and address industry challenges in a more effective and sustainable manner.

We highlight some key players in our Ecosystem: Innoscience, Technological Park, MIT Technology Review, iUP (IBP), EloGroup, among others. We will detail some partnerships below.
